Swans Rugby promo 6.jpg

Sunshine Coast Rugby Union is launching a Women’s 12s Rugby series on the Sunshine Coast this March, and the Maroochydore Swans are proud to be involved in this strong competition for another year.

It is an exciting time for Women’s Rugby in Australia, and the Women’s Rugby program on the Sunshine Coast is growing at a rapid rate. There are currently five Clubs involved in the Women’s series this year, including Caloundra, Maroochydore, Gympie, USC and Noosa, with the need this year to increase the team sizes to 12 players per side (previously only playing 10 aside in 2017 and 7 aside in 2016).

The Swans Women’s team will hold training sessions on Monday nights and Wednesday nights from 6pm til 7.30pm.

Competition days are Saturdays at 1pm, playing for 40 minutes (20 minute halves) – prior to the Senior Men’s games. The season starts 7 April.

MAROOCHY RSL CLUB  7-11pm

The inaugural Swans Casino night was a huge success raising over $10,000 for the club. First and foremost we thank Maroochy RSL for being our Platinum sponsor for this event. The beautifully renovated venue, the staff and the hospitality were all first class. We will be back!

Also, a huge thankyou to the 130 people that came along to support us – what a great night! And thank you to the following amazing businesses that gave so generously to ensure the night was such a success.

10th annual John Currey Memorial Shield

John Currey Cup

John Currey Memorial Shield
Saturday 8th July 2017

The 10th annual John Currey Memorial Shield will be played Saturday 8th July, as the Swans take on Noosa at Cotton Tree. The John Currey Memorial Shield is played in memory of Swans life member, former captain and player-coach John Currey, who played over 200 Grade games for Maroochydore during the period 1988-2001. “JC” played 11 consecutive grand finals, all against Noosa, for five premiership wins. A big, courageous, tough and intelligent second-rower, JC was an inspirational teammate and a feared opponent. JC also played for the Sunshine Coast rep team for several years. His most memorable season for Sunny Coast was 1999, when he captained the team to the Queensland Country championship, beating Townsville 19-16. John was a well-respected dentist, husband to Tanya and father to Jackson. John was a mighty Swan and this annual match celebrates his legacy, one of longstanding rivalry against Noosa on the field and friendship and respect off the field. In this tenth year of the John Currey Memorial Shield, the history of fierce battles between these two clubs will be remembered on Cotton Tree oval.
